2021 – 2023 Kappa Kappa Psi Volunteer Application

Brothers,

As we prepare for the 2021 National Convention in Grand Rapids, Michigan in just a few weeks, we are also preparing for the next biennium of service as we reCharge our Brotherhood and find our new normal following the impact of the COVID 19 pandemic on our fraternity.

Now, more than ever, we need Brothers who are willing to stand up and answer the call to serve Kappa Kappa Psi as we work to support our 217 chapters and 5,000+ active members across the country.  Many of our chapters are smaller than ever before.  Some chapters only have Brothers who were initiated during COVID.  Our chapters, our Brothers, and our band programs will need us to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with them as they return to in person operations.

As part of this national call for volunteers, below is an application for those interested in serving Kappa Kappa Psi on the national level.   We will be looking for BOTH active and alumni brothers interested in serving as National Committee Members, Colony Advisors, Leadership Speakers, and more.  The application will outline details on various roles, time commitments, whether traveling may be involved, and our volunteer expectations.

2021 – 2023 Kappa Kappa Psi Volunteer Application

Application will close July 25, 2021.

This application will be open through National Convention, and Brothers will be notified in August of the outcome of the application process.  If you are interested in serving, but are not sure about the right fit for you, please contact me (jessicalee@kkpsi.org) or find me at National Convention to chat about how you can best serve Kappa Kappa Psi.

Also included in the volunteer application will be the option to be a part of the Kappa Kappa Psi Leadership Cohort.  This program will work to provide interested alumni brothers with tools and leadership skills to take the next step in their Kappa Kappa Psi leadership journey – whether that might be a desire to serve as a National Committee Chair, District Governor, National Officer,  Alumni officer, or some other role.  This cohort will be a year long, and will run September 2021 – June 2022, with a new cohort of individuals in September 2022 – June 2023.  It is my sincere hope that providing this opportunity for our alumni Brothers will help to create the next generation of fraternity leadership.

I hope you will look at this application and think about ways you can continue to serve Kappa Kappa Psi and our band programs.  For many of you, there may be other ways beyond this application in which you can continue to serve, and I encourage you to think about how you can reCharge your commitment to our purposes and our values.  Every Brother has the ability to make an impact to further our mission.  I am excited to see so many of you IN PERSON in Grand Rapids, Michigan at our National Convention!

AEA,

The 2017 Scott Stowell Alumni Excellence Award recipient is….

Named for Past National President Scott Stowell, the Scott Stowell Alumni Excellence Award was designed to recognize those alumni of Kappa Kappa Psi who continue to serve our fraternity through their devotion of time, energy, and spirit while volunteering as advisors, mentors, and role models, their professional advice and networking support to other members of our fraternity, and their encouragement of active brothers toward greater participation and growth in band programs and as members of Kappa Kappa Psi.  The service of these outstanding Brothers has often been unsung and overlooked, a situation that the Kappa Kappa Psi Alumni Association seeks to remedy.

Awarded once each biennium, with recognition made at the National Convention of the Fraternity, previous recipients of the award are Michael Napolitano (2013, Kappa Upsilon) and Michelle Turenne (2015, Eta Omicron).

The Kappa Kappa Psi Alumni Association Board of Directors is pleased to recognize Jennifer Costello of the Alpha Omega Chapter as the 2017 recipient of the Scott Stowell Alumni Excellence Award for her ongoing support and dedication.  We would like to share the following from the Alpha Omega chapter:

“She serves as the volunteer videographer for the University of Pittsburgh Varsity Marching Band and as a mentor, advisor, and friend to the Alpha Omega chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi.  She is unbelievably kind and helpful to everyone that she meets and helps to create a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere for all members, new and old…Jen is the most dedicated, selfless, and caring alumni from the Alpha Omega chapter.  She truly embodies the pillars of the fraternity: musicianship, leadership, service, and brotherhood.  Her sense of fellowship and love for the fraternity is more than just “l love you”, it’s “no matter what”.”

The Kappa Kappa Psi Alumni Association would also like to congratulate the other nominees for 2017.  Your on-going service to the Fraternity continues to be an inspiration:

•             Mark Bowers, Beta Sigma

•             Christopher Carpenter, Omicron

•             Dan Everard, Eta Omicron

•             Sarah Fitzgerald, Iota Delta

•             Kelly Miller, Omicron

•             Ed Savoy, Eta Alpha/Eta Omicron

•             Jessica Finlay-Schultz, Alpha Iota

Finally, we would like to thank our selection committee for their work on the difficult task of choosing a single recipient. Brent Cannon, KKPsiAA Outreach and Recognition Director, was assisted by Alexis Howell (Iota Pi), Daniel Ross (Iota), Carissa Vinovskis (Epsilon Omega), Reggie Wallace (Eta Gamma), and Michelle Wedster (Eta Delta).

Have you reported your 2016-2017 Graduating Seniors?

Dear Brother President,

Before the end of the semester completely takes over your remaining available brain cells, I wanted to make sure that you were up to speed with what the Fraternity and the KKPsi Alumni Association (KKPsiAA) needs from you in regards to your end of year reporting of Graduating Seniors.

First off, each Graduating Senior MUST log into the OMRS and confirm that the contact information in their profile is accurate.  Combined with the Graduating Senior Report, this update is what is functionally the membership form for their complimentary year of KKPsiAA Membership.  No paper form is needed.  We highly recommend that Brothers use their professional email address, and not the student email address established by the college or university. We need to be able to contact you for years to come.  A school based email address isn’t reliable, and may be shut down by the school with no notice to the Alumni.

Next, I want to review which forms to use for reporting status changes to Alumni.

Each chapter with Graduating Seniors MUST complete the Graduating Seniors Report (GSR) at least twice an academic year. Submit as many of the GSRs in an academic year as you need to!  For Spring and Summer 2017 graduates, please submit the GSRs immediately.  If you have not submitted a GSR reflecting your Fall 2016 and Winter 2017 graduates, please do so ASAP!  If any of your Graduating Seniors are currently listed as officers in the OMRS, you will need to complete an Officer & Chapter Update before the GSR can be processed.

If a member terminates their affiliation with the College/University without graduating, please submit a Chapter Personnel Update (CPU) to report status changes to Alumni status.  Per the National Constitution, Alumni members of the Fraternity shall be those Active, Associate or Conditional members of the Fraternity who have completed their education or who have terminated their affiliation with their college or university. This report can also be submitted as often as necessary throughout the year.

If a Brother currently holds Inactive status, they cannot be submitted for Alumni status on either form.  There is a separate process for Inactive Reinstatement that is not associated with these forms.

From reviewing all of the reported Alumni to-date in the 2016-17 KKPsiAA membership year, we have 25% of those Brothers with the strong likelihood of having been incorrectly reported in the OMRS.  Almost 300 Brothers have potentially missed out on their complimentary first year membership in the KKPsiAA because the Graduating Seniors Report was not used.

One last point – get the Graduating Seniors Report under the noses of your Sponsor and/or Director of Bands at least two weeks BEFORE finals week.  If they have no reason to be on campus but for a final or two, checking their campus email account may be the least of their priorities. Don’t get your report stuck in approval limbo until late August!  The longer it takes for the report to clear all the necessary approvals, the longer it is until your future Alumni are marked correctly in the OMRS.  If they aren’t listed as Alumni, they are not granted membership in the KKPsiAA, are not permitted to join any Local Alumni Associations, and may not be eligible to become Life Members.  Also, incomplete Graduating Seniors Reports can affect the Annual Reports that each Local Alumni Association completes in the Spring. It isn’t fair to your Alumni to neglect or delay the submission of this report!

Thank you very much for tending to these important tasks this week.  Your Brothers deserve it.

Fraternally yours,

KKPsiAA Board of Directors Announcement

Dear Brothers,

On behalf of the Kappa Kappa Psi Board of Trustees, I am pleased and honored to announce the appointment of Alison Beidler as Chair of the Alumni Association Board of Directors. She replaces Mike Napolitano who is taking on the position of Northeast District Governor. Mike has done a terrific job as chair, and Alison is poised to continue the Alumni Association having served as co-Vice Chair. Her work with membership is particularly remarkable.

Please join us in congratulating Alison as she takes on this role and in supporting the Kappa Kappa Psi Alumni Association as they continue to “Strive for the Highest.”
