Gold Star Memorial Program

In 1947, at the National Convention in Stillwater, Oklahoma, the National Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi recognized members of Kappa Kappa Psi who were killed in action while serving our country during World War II. The brothers in attendance created a memorial recognition knows as the Gold Star.

Prior to the 2007 National Convention, the Fraternity’s National Council was approached by Danielle Adams, a Kappa Kappa Psi Brother from the Kappa Epsilon Chapter at Shenandoah University and the Zeta Sigma Chapter at North Carolina Central University about how current military members and brothers could be recognized by the Fraternity. Viewing the upcoming 2007 National Convention in Orlando as an appropriate time to recognize members of Kappa Kappa Psi and our band family who have served our country in its armed forces, the National Council used the Gold Star recognition from 1947 as inspiration to create a new Star Recognition program to recognize Brothers and other college band members who are current military members or veterans.

This program offers four types of recognition:

  • Gold Star Memorial: for Brothers who have passed while serving our country (and who will be honored through a memorial resolution from the National Council).
  • Blue Star Recognition: for Brothers who are currently serving in our country’s armed forces or are veterans.
  • Silver Star Memorial: for college band members who have passed while serving our country (and who will be honored through a memorial resolution from the National Council).
  • White Star Recognition: for college band members who are currently serving in our country’s armed forces or are veterans.

At the 2025 National Convention, the National Council will once again recognize Brothers of Kappa Kappa Psi and other members of our college bands through these recognition programs.  By submitting information using the form below, you can help us recognize these individuals.

Applications open November 11, 2024 and close July 1, 2025.
